Job Summary
The official economic development organization of St. Bernard Parish, the St. Bernard Economic Development Foundation (SBEDF), is seeking a passionate, self-motivated, candidate to help carry out the organization’s mission of creating and retaining jobs, building prosperity, and improving quality of life in St. Bernard Parish. The Communications and Programs Associate reports directly to the Executive Director, is responsible for the planning and executing of all communication strategies involving SBEDF branded materials, the SBEDF website, email communications, media outlets, and social & digital platforms. This position leads the implementation of programs and projects that support the mission and vision of SBEDF. This individual works in concert with the Executive Director to develop strategies for organizational growth while ensuring the optimization of resources.
Roles and Responsibilities
The role of the Communications and Programs Associate will include the following. These roles are not distinct, and will overlap as appropriate:
Communications and Public Relations
- Develop a vision and formulate short- and long-term plans for the communications and marketing programs and its activities; monitor progress, assure adherence and evaluate performance
- Foster strategic, targeted communications in order to build and expand relationships with all constituencies that contribute to the success of SBEDF
- Supervise and monitor the annual marketing budget
- Coordinate the design, printing, and distribution of marketing and communication materials for print and digital applications in line with SBEDF's brand identity and organization messaging
- Create content and manage the SBEDF website to ensure consistency and up-to-date information across the site
- Write press releases/media advisories and act as primary media contact for organization
- Represent SBEDF through community engagement and regional networking opportunities
- Maintain and monitor all social media channels
- Assist Executive Director with community relations activities including meeting with businesses and community supporters on a continual basis
- Collaborate with a wide variety of stakeholders on multiple projects to support business development, business retention and expansion, raise organizational awareness, and contribute to workforce development
Programs and Operations Management
- Lead in the planning, promotion, and execution of core SBEDF programs and special projects as determined by the Executive Director
- Oversee planning and logistics for on-site and off-site organization meetings, programs, and events
- Coordinate the maintenance of offices and shared workspaces, order supplies, and handle day-to-day operations
- Provide excellent customer services to all visitors while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality
- Evaluate program operations and activities for adherence to strategic objectives of the organization
- Develop and maintain database for SBEDF's business retention and expansion activities
- Directly oversee training and management of staff/interns as it relates to communications, marketing and programs
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university preferred
- A minimum of 3 years of communications, marketing, programming, or related experience in economic development, private industry, trade associations, and/or public sector or not-for-profit organizations
- Ability to work independently and on multiple projects simultaneously
- Excellent communications skills; ability to write appropriately for different channels and to individuals at all levels
- Experience managing social media channels, website content, and email communications. MailChimp proficiency is a plus
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work well under deadlines
- Proficiency in all Microsoft Office Suite applications
- Graph Design experience with working knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, and/or InDesign
- Work comfortably in highly collaborative environment; manage competing interests and strong personalities
- Demonstrate proactive nature with the ability to prioritize
- Experience in a CRM system a plus
- Professional demeanor at all times
Compensation/Requirements/Other Notes
While performing elements of job, candidate is commonly required to travel within the New Orleans area and occasionally required to travel regionally or nationally
Applicant must be authorized to work in the United States for any employer
As a full time position, applicant will be required to work Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM, as well as evening and weekend work as the job duties demand
Salary range is $40,000 to $50,000, commensurate with experience
